[ Home / Federal Hill / Driveway ]

This postcard shows the entrance to Federal Hill as it existed when it became a state shrine.

This entrance still exists, except these days it is the park service entrance, and runs a straight perpendicular line from the highway all the way up to the home. It turns and goes behind the home and through a breezeway that was created when public restrooms and a carriage house was added in the 1950s.

This road was nice, smooth asphalt pavement until the mid 1990s, when someone thought that coating it with some sort of light brown crushed rock chip-seal mixture would look more authentic. I think it looks awful!

A couple of sinkholes have showed up in this area that is depicted. I've heard tell that concrete rubble and large rocks were dumped into to keep it filled.
